H MRS detected mobile lipids in rodent gliomas: correlation with EPR determined tumour oxygenation

چکیده
Introduction Resonances arising from mobile lipids in brain tumour H MR spectra bear multiple potential biomarker functions. Saturated lipid peaks have been associated with high degree of malignancy both in animal [1] and human [2, 3] brain tumours. The MR Spectroscopy (MRS) lipids are correlated with necrotic histopathology, a hallmark of high degree of malignancy [4]. In contrast to saturated lipids, polyunsaturared lipids in brain tumour H MR spectrum have been shown to appear in response to successful cytotoxic therapy [1]. Here we have determined oxygen tension in two rat glioma models by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and used single-voxel MRS and MRS imaging (MRSI) to estimate H MRS detectable lipids in these tumours.

Biomarker to Assess Tumor Oxygenation Qualification of a Noninvasive Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Purpose: Although hypoxia has been long recognized as a crucial factor impairing tumor response in many therapeutic schemes, atraumatic and reliablemethods of individually quantifying tumor oxygenation are still lacking in day-to-day clinical practice. The aim of this work was to investigate the potentially quantitative properties of our recently described noninvasive magnetic resonance (MR) te...
متن کاملRecognition of anaplastic foci within low-grade gliomas using MR spectroscopy.
BACKGROUND The recognition of anaplastic foci within low-grade gliomas is of extreme importance in patients under follow-up for Grade II gliomas. We present the algorithm of MR spectroscopy (MRS)-guided brain biopsy and its correlation with tumour histology. METHODS Twenty-seven patients harbouring suspected Grade II/III glioma were examined on our 3T MR. 2D PRESS-CSI metabolite images of Cho...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance spectroscopy metabolite profiles predict survival in paediatric brain tumours
BACKGROUND Brain tumours cause the highest mortality and morbidity rate of all childhood tumour groups and new methods are required to improve clinical management. (1)H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) allows non-invasive concentration measurements of small molecules present in tumour tissue, providing clinically useful imaging biomarkers. The primary aim of this study was to investigate w...
متن کاملIs R1 of Lipids related to pO2? Lessons from two tumor models
Introduction: Tumor hypoxia is acknowledged as a major factor of resistance of solid tumors to treatment. Improving tumor oxygenation at the time of treatment could lead to an improved response to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Variations in T1 and T2* are potentially valuable MRI tools to follow changes in tumor oxygenation. T2* is sensitive to the relative Hb/HbO2 ratio in vessel , while...
متن کاملMagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy for Differentiating Pseudo-Progression from True Progression in GBM on Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy.
Neoadjuvant chemo-radiation therapy including temozolomide is commonly used for the treatment of gliomas. However, increased lesion size and contrast enhancement are frequently observed following this therapy and this appearance is termed as 'pseudo-progression'. Since conventional imaging is unable to differentiate pseudo-progression from tumour recurrence, we evaluated the utility of MR spect...
